Greenlink project takes shape in Ireland: newsletter updates local community on progress

2 May 2023. The latest news on the construction of the Greenlink Interconnector in Ireland has been shared with local people in Wexford in the April issue of the Greenlink Community Newsletter.

The newsletter, which was distributed to residents, businesses and other stakeholders in the area, gives an update on engineering works both onshore and offshore, along with the support that the project is giving to the local community.

Greenlink remains on course to be commissioned by the end of 2024. Updates include:

  • progress of construction of the converter station at Great Island, where foundations have been completed and cladding is being erected;

  • how a sustainable approach to the re-use of materials on the construction site has so far saved approximately 850 tonnes of CO2;

  • plans for the remaining 8.5km of underground cable duct installation along the onshore route;

  • the start of installation of cable ducts at Baginbun Beach, the Irish landfall for the interconnector; and

  • the charities, infrastructure and educational initiatives Greenlink is supporting locally.
